FEATURED PROJECT
Intervening Early + Meet the Meeples
Public Awareness Campaign and Animated Series Launch
Overview
A state earmark offered a nonprofit serving young children with developmental delays the opportunity to expand its work by becoming a Play Project Center for autism intervention and strengthening evidence-based practices for early intervention. I led creative strategy and marketing efforts for this new initiative that included developing and executing a comprehensive campaign to increase public awareness and help demystify a complex and sensitive topic. At the heart of this campaign was Meet the Meeples, an original animated series designed to bring clarity, warmth, and charm to a nuanced subject.

The Challenge
Early intervention can be a complex, emotionally charged topic – one that’s often misunderstood by the general public. The challenge was to educate the public on early intervention, including what it is and when it is needed. To do this effectively, it was important to simplify the message without losing its depth or sensitivity, creating accessible, engaging content that would drive action and increase participation in both early intervention and autism screening and services.

The Strategy
I envisioned and directed a comprehensive, multi-channel strategy that included:
-
Market research to define messaging, positioning, and audience needs
-
Brand development for both the Intervening Early initiative and Meet the Meeples
-
Website creation with online learning capabilities for Play Project providers
-
Original content development for the animated video series, promotional materials, and educational resources
-
Communication strategy for scripts, newsletters, PR, and outreach materials
-
Ad campaigns (digital, YouTube, and radio)
-
Conference and training integration
Central to the success of these projects was the team of creative partners, a coalition I built and led. I united web developers, videographers, animators, designers, content strategists, and PR professionals around a clear, energizing vision. I provided strategic direction while empowering each partner to bring their best work – building trust, maintaining alignment, and elevating the entire project.
The Impact
-
11.2+ million impressions about the importance of intervening early
-
450% increase in capacity to offer Play Project autism intervention
-
4,900+ families, providers, and policymakers engaged directly through outreach, trainings, and workshops
-
13,000+ views of Meet the Meeples animated series
-
Widespread recognition of the creative strategy, with collaborators winning awards in their respective fields
-
Foundation laid for future broadcast partnerships and merchandising revenue
Why It Worked
This initiative succeeded because of the blend of bold ideas, energizing and unified strategy, deep collaboration, and trust. By aligning creative storytelling with mission-driven goals – and building a strong, inspired team – I was able to help translate a complex message into meaningful action, expanding the organization’s impact and setting the stage for future growth.
